History

Riverside Hospital Employees Credit Union, as it was called originally, was formed in 1976 by the employees of Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, Ill. Membership was open to all employees of the hospital and their family members. Over the years, our office moved to several locations in the hospital. Initially, savings (share) accounts were the only product available to members.

As membership grew, we added loans to our product line, and the need for more office space necessitated a move to a larger building on the hospital’s campus at 401 N. Wall Street. It proved to be a temporary “home” as we purchased our existing location at 185 N. Fraser Avenue in 1991 and relocated.

Membership continued to grow as did our array of products, services, and technology advances. A changing market and increased financial competition led to the opening of our first branch office on Mooney Drive in Bourbonnais in 1999.

Two years later, we revised our field of membership to a community charter. This change opened our credit union to anyone who lives or works within a 30-mile radius of the city of Kankakee, and our name was changed to Riverside Community Credit Union.

Over the ensuing years, change continued to fuel our progress and led to the closing of our office on Mooney Drive and to the construction of a new branch at 368 Larry Power Road in Bourbonnais in 2003.

Through it all, however, we have remained dedicated to providing competent and friendly service to all of our members as we are guided by the credit union industry’s founding philosophy of “people helping people.”
